Social entrepreneur, Victoria Sanders founded Elephanta Education, L3C, in 2018 with a simple yet powerful goal: to inspire K12 students to consider how they connect to reality, and to each other. This journey began before her sons' reading scores flatlined after 5th grade; before screens; before an MA in Peace & Conflict Studies. It started when she moved to Wyoming and took a job teaching skiing and realized that learning how to do *anything should be banger. In time, she built, tested & iterated a board game that explored Westward Expansion from multiple viewpoints with over 2,500 students across Wyoming and the Minneapolis Public Schools.
GAME THEORY
During the pandemic, Sanders used the template she created to build the Bozeman Trail to build an entire series of history board games. Using STEM principles, Sanders simply layered more learning standards and objectives into each game's lesson plan. The result? BRAVE, a Game Theory application called "repeated games" that explores the role trust plays in conflict and cooperation. A hard-won, joyful achievement that no textbook writer dared dream.
LEARNING SCIENCE
Post-pandemic, teachers requested more time-sensitive skilled learning; meanwhile, THREE decades (!!) of declining reading scores finally forced schools to rethink their reading curricula. Meanwhile, Sanders tightened the BRAVE method to launch JAMs. Making school sweeter than honey.
